You may be struggling with how to move forward, get ahead, feel some growth and progress in your boudoir photography business. I’m here to talk to you about the importance of how to show up anyway. Even when you don’t feel like it will change anything.

Have you had this vision in your head of how your business would go? Or have you been throwing it all together as you go along and just hoping that something somewhere would click and fall into place?

When I began my photography career 13 years ago I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but the one thing I did know was that I wanted to make it happen, no matter what it took.

So, let’s be honest, I made so many mistakes in my business and for years I piecemealed it together. Early on in my career, I thought that fixing my logo, buying new presets, and gear, and taking clients that weren’t best for me, while charging really low prices (I’m talking $50 mini-sessions, $150 “regular sessions) would all result in much more success. News flash, it didn’t. However, the one thing I always did was show up anyway.

So, In 13 years I’ve had many downfalls and made many mistakes. We didn’t have education communities or platforms. There was no real help out there that I could find to teach me how to build a sustainable photography business or what that even meant.

Finally, in 2017 I decided to get to the root of what wasn’t working in my business and a large majority of it actually revolved around mindset. Back then, I had no idea what mindset even was, and it felt a little out there for my very numbers-oriented brain. But, I started to put in the work and finally started seeing results in my business. Financially I went from a gross revenue of $18,000 in one year, working very part-time as a photographer, doing the side-hustle thing trying to make this a real full-time business, to $54,000 the next and knowing that I could really make this work.

When I first started photographing boudoir in 2018 I was stuck in the copy and paste culture of guides that have plagued the boudoir industry… and news flash again, it still wasn’t working exactly as I wanted it to. I knew I was capable of more. Even though I made six figures as a boudoir photographer the very first year I started, there were still a lot of things I was missing, not implementing, and didn’t even know about.

So, With each passing year, I felt like I was slowly learning what to do and what not to do in my boudoir business. Even though It was a slow process and it took over a decade of growth to get to where I learned how to run a successful boudoir business on what feels a little like autopilot I’m so excited to share that with you today.

So let’s talk about how to get there.

Progress Is Not Linear

To build a truly sustainable boudoir business, for most, will likely take years. Photography is not a get-rich-quick kind of business. Many start a boudoir business thinking that it will be easy, and the money is great. For some, they do see wild success in their first year of business, but most, like both Christie and I, it took years to develop our core values, our systems, our marketing, and most importantly our mindset.

As a boudoir photographer, it is important for you to know that progress is not linear, it will not always be upward growth, but, the single best thing you can do for your business is to show up anyway.

Progress, growth, and success will look like a wave. You are going to have ups and downs, and the goal is to get those waves to very small waves rather than large feast or famine mountains to climb.

How do you do this? By showing up consistently on a daily basis. The growth of your business will happen by small actions taken on a daily basis rather than showing up all or nothing, here & there, or with no rhyme or reason.

How Does Mindset Work?

You may be asking what mindset even is? In short, mindset is a way of thinking. The way you think has a way of shaping the actions that you do or don’t take, even in business.

Your mindset actually has a way of shaping how you perceive yourself and your world.

Our own mindset can have a way of feeling like our own enemy sometimes. Our mindset can limit our beliefs, and become roadblocks in moving forward in our businesses.

However, with mindset work, we have the ability to change our beliefs about ourselves and our businesses.

Through our programs The Boudoir Business Blueprint and The Boudoir Icon we place a heavy emphasis on mindset. We have weekly coaching calls to work through roadblocks and learn how to change how we view our business, our abilities, and our capabilities.

Showing up daily, even when past clients, others in the industry, or your own family doesn’t understand will result in major growth. These shifts can turn your boudoir sessions into mind-blowing experiences for your clients. These shifts will transform your income, and your business. however, know, It takes time and patience.

Show Up Anyway

Here’s the secret to it all: show up anyway. Growing a boudoir photography business will not be linear. It will take many mindset and identity shifts over and over again.

The amazing thing is, that when you show up instead of quitting you get to re-write the story. You are the one that gets to change your thoughts, your patterns, and your business.
